Welsh Federation of Fishermen's Associations Ltd

The Welsh Federation of Fishermen’s Associations Limited (WFFA) is recognized as the official ‘representative voice of and for the commercial fishing industry in Wales’. With over 500 registered and licensed fishing vessels around the coast, the majority of which are under ten metres in length, the fishermen of Wales catch a wide variety of high quality fish and shellfish, including lobster, crab, prawns, bass and other finfish and make a significant contribution to the rural economy.

The Federation is made up of the four Fishermen’s Associations of Wales that in turn provide support to fishermen on a regional basis. These Associations cover respectively from the Dee Estuary To Anglesey, Llyn Peninsula, Cardigan Bay and South and West Wales (from Cemaes Head to Cardiff). The Chairs and Vice Chairs of the Associations make up the Federation Management Committee that meets on a monthly basis to determine and direct the work of the Federation and its staff.

Liaising closely with the Welsh Assembly Government, Countryside Council for Wales and a wide range of other statutory and non Government organizations, the Federation works in support of the industry and is wholeheartedly dedicated to the long term sustainable development of the industry in Wales.

Through this website, the Federation seeks not only to open and extend dialogue with individuals and organizations but also to provide honest and unbiased information regarding commercial fishing in the seas around Wales and beyond.

At the present time, the site acts primarily as a conduit to Federation and Association staff but in time will provide a range of information regarding the fish, fishermen and fisheries of Wales.

We bid you welcome and invite you to contact Federation staff on any matters relating to the fishing industry in Wales.
